Artie Wister’s Road Race
Notes for Participants

Tech Inspection

To insure the safety of all cars for racing, they will be inspected for basic issues like good brake pedal, tight wheel nuts, secured battery, etc. We suggest removing loose items from trunks before arrival. Spare tires may be left in place. For Tech Inspection and staging, please bring your car to the lower of the two lots between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Helmets and Seat Belts

We suggest wearing helmets, and we have enough loaner helmets available for this event. A consensus of planners indicates that fastened seat belts are not required for this event, as both drivers and riding mechanics must be often in and out of the car, and top speeds cannot be very fast because of the design of the course.

LeMans Start
The driver runs across the track, jumps in the car, and starts it. The Riding Mechanic may wait in the car with his or her arms up and away from starter buttons. If anyone has bad hips or knees and wishes to waive the LeMans start, he or she may do so with a 30 second penalty.

Pit Stop #1: Change a Spark Plug
Riding Mechanic will remove the plug from the cylinder head provided, and Driver will install it.

Pit Stop #2: Stack Valve Tappets.
Driver and Riding Mechanic will stack five valve tappets to make one vertical pillar.

Pit Stop #3: Fill Radiator
Riding Mechanic will hold funnel, and Driver will pour one quart of water in the radiator provided.

Pit Stop #4: Tire Change
Riding Mechanic will knock-off hub nut and remove the wheel from the axle provided. He or she will then roll the tire once around the car, and then the Driver will replace it on the axle and tighten the nut with one tap of the hammer provided.

Pit Stop #5: Tighten Nuts and Bolts
Driver and Riding Mechanic may work together to install nuts provided onto bolts provided.

We hope you enjoy the road race...
