Graphic for Summer Party 2018

Summer Party has been held almost every year since 1986 when the first event was a spontaneous field party attended by upwards of five-hundred British car enthusiasts who came together during the Vintage Triumph Register National Convention held in nearby Greensburg. Summer Party has always been open to all British car enthusiasts, specifically the friends, customers, suppliers and investors of The Roadster Factory. Traditions have built up over the years, and new ones form every year. These traditions and long friendships are celebrated in this year’s theme, which is “County Fair.”

County Fairs are traditional agricultural events held around the country for local people to come together annually to display their work and their hobbies and to compete with each other with their physical skill and the quality of their crops, crafts, and handiwork and also to socialize with one another meeting old friends and making new ones. Summer Party is a sort of County Fair where British car enthusiasts may demonstrate their driving and rallye skills and compare their workmanship with that of others. It is also a place to show off mechanical skills and the skills of all the crafts which go into maintaining and rebuilding a classic British car. Regular attendees also meet friends and compare notes with those they have met in other years and at other events. In holding Summer Party, The Roadster Factory merely gives participants an opportunity to gather and enjoy themselves in a beautiful country setting. A good time for all is paramount...

Sports cars were designed for driving and competition, and driving events have always been central to Summer Party. These include autocross, auto racing around a course set up with cones in a parking lot or on an airport runway. This year Summer Party participants have an opportunity to run an official SCCA autocross at Jimmy Stewart Airport along with local SCCA club members. TSD rallying has always been a type of competition enjoyed by British car enthusiasts. Rallying is a test of precision driving skill different from racing. Rallyists follow a set of route instructions in which all turns and speed changes are specified. The goal is to cross each checkpoint on time to the second. For those who love driving but may not wish to compete, Summer Party has always included guided “Mountain Tours” on interesting roads through scenic country. All of these driving events are included in Summer Party 2018, and one or two more may be added, depending on the number of participants, interest, and available venues.

Concours d’Elegance or car shows and displays of automotive excellence and craftsmanship have always been a part of the British sports car scene. Many participants have spent untold effort in restoring their cars to a high standard, and car shows provide an opportunity to display one’s craftsmanship and to compete for the title of “Best in Class” or “Best of Show.” Summer Party includes a Participants’ Choice Concours d’Elegance in which all cars are displayed and judged by other participants. Awards are given for one to three places in each class and for the car judged to be the “Best of Show” by popular vote. The Concours also gives participants who are working on projects a chance to see what is correct. There is something to be learned from every car, and this is an argument for displaying unrestored and unfinished project cars...

Sports car men and women enjoy each other’s company, and club picnics and gatherings at local pubs have always been a part of the scene. Summer Party 2018 will include Afternoon Tea with refreshments at The Coventry Inn, a British pub owned by Charles Runyan and built with participation by hundreds of British car enthusiasts, each of whom is commemorated with a brass nameplate screwed to beams inside The Coventry Inn. The final event on Saturday night of Summer Party is the traditional field party held under the big top on the Summer Party Field. This is a pig roast with copious amounts of local sweet corn and other homemade food. Awards are given after dinner, live music is performed, and everyone is welcome to end the evening socializing with new and old friends around the bonfire.

The registration fee of $99.00 for one car and a driver covers all driving events including autocross, the car show (Concours), afternoon tea, the field party, and other events which may be added. See the enclosed registration form for other forms of registration. Each adult registration also includes one event T-shirt and a dash plaque. Alcoholic beverages are not included, but they may be purchased during the afternoon tea. Open containers are illegal on the streets of Indiana, but participants may consume their own beverages on TRF grounds and at campsites.

A block of rooms has been set aside at Park Inn by Radisson in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and the special price for these is $99.00 plus taxes per night for either a king or two queens as available at the time of booking. To receive the special rate, you must specify that you are attending The Roadster Factory Summer Party. Summer Party participants have traditionally enjoyed staying at Park Inn (formerly The Holiday Inn), but there are many other motels in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Park Inn is easily accessible and central to most events, although it is about fifteen miles from The Roadster Factory in Armagh.

Traditionally, camping on TRF grounds has been a favourite accommodation for Summer Party Participants. There is lots of space, and tents may be pitched. Cooking fires are also allowed along with grilling etc. (weather permitting). Facilities are rough, including handwash, porta-johns, and makeshift showers with a certain amount of hot water. The nominal charge for camping is $20.00 for the entire time per family, and a few motor home spaces with power may be reserved for $50.00 each.

Please let us know if you plan on Autocrossing—Email to so we can be sure to pay your autocross fee.
